The Triple Trouble began in 2005 – conjured up during an afternoon run up Suikerbossie. The need for a long training run for the upcoming 3 Peaks Challenge, and a view up the road of Judas Peak, and the decision was made.
we rely completely on the honour system.
No checkpoints at the beacons, no marshalls.
No passport control, no visas.
Just you and your conscience
The run is still held in the same spirit and atmosphere in which it was first run – “Start at Chapman’s Peak Hotel early on the 1st Saturday morning in October, reach the beacons on Suther Peak, Judas Peak, and Chapmans Peak, and descend to the hotel between each peak. We rely completely on the honour system – i.e. no checkpoints at the beacons, no marshalls, no passport control, no visas, just you and your conscience. It is intended as a healthy mix of tar and trail, uphills and downhills and everything in-between”
As it turned out, the journey was much longer than predicted but enjoyed by all, and numerous stops were made to celebrate each beacon reached. In previous years we have been graced with the finest display Mother Nature has to offer, sunshine, thick mist, clear skies and looming clouds, spectacular flowering springtime fynbos, and whales splashing in the waters of the bay beneath us.
The Triple is not strictly about records and times, it is a personal challenge and simply reaching the finish line in one piece is more often enough for most.
