2015 done and drenched (UPDATED)

Dear Triple Troublers

Thank you once again for the honour of sharing another day out in the mountains of Hout Bay with you all. Every year is a new and different experience, meeting old friends and making new ones, sharing moments and mountains peaks that will be etched in my mind for a long time.

As always, the thank you’s to the people who help make it what it is –

  • Velocity Sports Lab – for once again providing the most brilliant venue we could imagine, not to mention those showers.
  • Janette – once again outdoing herself with those magnificent JT shirts you are no doubt wearing today
  • The Chapmans Peak Hotel and Cape Union Mart for providing sponsorships towards the shirts
  • The Ultratrail organisers for marking Suther Peak (mainly for the benefit of Mark Pikker)
  • And especially to Lisa for being our base camp manager and time-keeper, and for helping out at such notice to make sure everything ran so smoothly while we were all up the mountains.

Well done to everyone that finished and braved the ‘pearler’ conditions at the beacons, and thank you for not being reckless – those rocks were super slippery up there on Suther and Judas but I am once again very proud that we can do a run like this and rely on you, the runners, to kit up and be responsible without having to enforce it. Old school rules, thanks to you all. The down side of this is that the points allocating became rather boring, no major blood letting, no broken bones, even Brian has to keep his poster for another year. Despite this, there were some notable and some equally dubious achievements which have been recorded on the points table below, and I don’t think anyone will dispute the overall points winner being a tough call between the Vida coffee guys and that hot shower. Thanks also to Sam for joining us from Durban, we hope you can plan your business trip again next year and hopefully we can provide some decent views for you to take home.

The fires earlier in the year had the final say in the changing of the route and thank you to you all for being so understanding. Surely the Triple is the first run around here to have a time-reward system instead of a time penalty? The only complaints I received was ‘3 minutes is too short’ and ‘what about the other two peaks’ (perhaps next year!). Big congratulations to Rupert and Charmaine, winning the mens and ladies overall with impressive runs, and to Mark, Rupert, and Sonja on finishing their 5th runs. A very special congratulations too to Janette on completing her 10th run.

And, if you want to be made to feel special, only 101 people have completed the Triple Trouble in 11 years, and this year we have the honour of congratulating Mansoor for being the official 100th finisher.

On that note, the results are up on the website, I am busy sorting some pics to upload over the next few days (please send yours through if you took) and keep an eye on the website for updates and any more news.

Huge thanks again and looking forward to seeing you all again next year.

Eric
